17 private label products to sell online

I know you are here for private label product ideas.

So, I will talk about other aspects of private labeling later and share the product list first.

Note that I have organized the list by niches so you can see which product categories are in demand.

Plus, I selected each item based on the criteria of a winning product. So all products have good profit potential and solve a specific problem.

Let's dive into the private label product examples to help you choose what to sell:

1. Phone Accessories

One of the easiest items to dropship as a private-label product is the phone case. There are several models you can choose from, and there is always a market out there. The challenge you will face is that you must keep your products updated to the latest phones.

For example, if Apple releases a new iPhone, you need to be abreast of this release and prepare your products as soon as possible.

Pros of Dropshipping Phone Cases

  • There is a huge market for both Android and iPhones
  • There are many suppliers for this product type
  • It is easy to customize the phone cases

Cons of Dropshipping Phone Cases

  • You need a strong marketing plan
  • There is a lot of competition

As far as the market goes, here is the result in Google Trends:

As you can see, there is a consistent demand for a phone case. The drop in the end is due to Google not updating the data yet.

Summary: Phone cases are easy to design and dropship. You can also expand later and add more products, such as phone stands. You also do not have to order inventory until such time the customer already buys from you.

2. Home and Kitchen Items

Similar to phone cases there are many types of home and kitchen items you can dropship under your brand. Here are some examples:

  • Pillows and covers
  • Blankets and comforters
  • Beach towels
  • Kitchen towels
  • Bathmats
  • Shower curtains

Pros of Dropshipping Home and Kitchen Items

  • There are many products you can add to your list
  • It is easy to find suppliers for these products
  • The products wear and tear, so you can expect customers to make repeat purchases

Cons of Dropshipping Home and Kitchen Items

  • The niche can be a little overwhelming as it is a huge niche

Here is the market based on Google Trends:

To succeed in this, I suggest that you keep a theme or maintain a store that focuses only on this specific niche. Do not mix in other products like school supplies, as it will be confusing to your consumers.

Summary: The home or kitchen décor niche is an excellent idea for private label dropshipping. It is easy to create a brand and be known for it.

3. Themed Clothing

From hoodies to shorts and swimwear, there are so many themed clothing that you can private label. The trick here is to concentrate on a type of market and sell them the clothes they are looking for.

Here are examples:

  • Clothing for yoga or physical fitness
  • Clothing for casual and daily wear
  • Politically inclined clothing or theme
  • Clothing for men only
  • Clothing for babies only
  • Clothing for women only
  • Goth clothing

Pros of Dropshipping Clothing

  • Easy to find products
  • The possibility of designing the shirts is endless
  • There are many suppliers

Cons of Dropshipping Clothing

  • There is a high level of competition

Here is the search volume for clothing:

If you search for hoodies, you will see that there is a seasonal demand for them (it is a winter item). Take the time to search for the most in-demand items according to the season; if you do this, you will have a ready market looking for specific products. All you need to do is to provide them with what they are looking for.

Summary: Apparel is one of the most in-demand products in the world. The competition is tough, but you can succeed if you concentrate your efforts on a very specific niche.

4. Bottles and Tumblers

While people are too crazy over Stanley tumblers, you can capitalize on this trend by selling your own. Stanley tumblers are too expensive, and you can use this to leverage your brand by selling similar but more affordable products.

Pros of Dropshipping Bottles and Tumblers

  • There are many designs you can implement
  • They are affordable compared to most branded tumblers
  • The market is huge (you can target various demographics)

Cons of Dropshipping Bottles and Tumblers

  • This niche is highly competitive

Here is the search or interest result from Google Trend:

Tumblers will always be in demand. If you use suppliers like Printify and Printful, you will also find specialized tumblers that have a high degree of insulation. There are also many types of tumblers you can choose from based on design, handle placement, etc.

One challenge I see in this product is the cost of shipping. They are bulky and the shipping cost can be as high as $7 per product.

Summary: Tumblers are great for private-label dropshipping because the market is huge. You can target all age groups and genders—especially those who are into healthy living.

5. Car and Travel Accessories

People who own a car are likely to spend money on their vehicles. You can sell all sorts of items such as car pillows, blankets, and phone holders.

Here are some product examples:

  • Luggage
  • Toiletry bags
  • Leather card holder
  • ID or tags for bags
  • Car mats
  • Mini-license plates

Pros of Dropshipping Travel Accessories

  • People who have cars and those who love to travel have money to spend
  • You can offer customizable products that your customers can personalize
  • There are many suppliers of travel and car accessories

Cons of Dropshipping Travel Accessories

  • It is a niche market; it requires more effort to reach the right demographic

Here is the trend for car accessories:

If you sell car accessories, know that you will have to create a reliable brand name or persona to make sales. It would help if you had a YouTube channel about cars, and then sold your merch to your YouTube subscribers. It is easier to do it this way than to advertise.

Car and travel accessories are usually costly. It is why you need to build trust before you can make sales. I strongly recommend that you put up a blog or YouTube channel that talks about cars or travel so you can build a following.

Summary: Car and travel merch have a demand, but convincing people to buy them is much harder than usual dropshipping items because these are usually one-off purchases.

6. Pet Supplies

Pet supplies are in consistent demand, but most of the time, your customers will only buy once. If you penetrate this niche, it is best that you do what you can to increase your average order value or AOV. For example, you can offer bundled products at a lower price.

Here are some product examples:

  • Food bowl
  • Collar
  • Shirts
  • Tags and IDs
  • Food or feeding mat
  • Pet bandana
  • Pet bed
  • Leash

Pros of Dropshipping Pet Supplies

  • There are many pet product suppliers you can rely on
  • You can personalize the design according to the pet’s name
  • There is a big market for pet lovers

Cons of Dropshipping Pet Supplies

  • Lots of competition

Here is what the market looks like:

As far as marketing goes, I suggest that you concentrate on a few pets, or just one. For example, if you want to sell pet products for dogs, focus on dogs only. Do not mix cats with your store. What you want is to build a brand that is known for a single pet type—it is easier to build your reputation this way than to try and sell to many types of pet lovers.

Summary: The pet market is huge, and you can take advantage of the demand by offering personalized products.

7. Beauty Products

Cosmetics is a highly competitive market, but it is also one of the best items you can dropship. Cosmetic products are what we consider consumer products—things that eventually get used up. Because of this, you can expect to have repeat customers, provided that they love your item.

Here are some examples:

  • Mascara
  • Lipstick
  • Make-up kits

Pros of Dropshipping Beauty Products

  • It is easy to find private-label suppliers
  • Customers will buy again, giving you sales consistency
  • It is easy to bundle products as a group for higher AOV

Cons of Dropshipping Beauty Products

  • It is difficult to build a trusted brand

Here is what the search demand looks like:

You may need to spend money to pay models and influencers who will endorse your product. If you do not have the budget, I suggest that you create an Instagram channel where you can showcase your beauty products. it is also important that you create content that helps people, such as showing how to apply makeup the right way.

Summary: Beauty products are easy to find, but they are equally hard to sell because of high competition. To succeed, you need to focus on your branding and marketing by creating useful content.

8. Jewelry

Jewelry is a common product to dropship. There are many print-on-demand jewelry suppliers you can find, like those in CJDropshipping

The key to succeeding with private-label jewelry dropshipping is to tell your consumers that your jewelry is not real—do not attempt to pass off your products as authentic.

Here are some examples of jewelry you can sell:

  • Pendants
  • Bracelets
  • Earring
  • Necklaces

Pros of Dropshipping Jewelry

  • Lots of suppliers to choose from
  • There is a demand for faux jewelry all the time
  • Shipping costs are low

Cons of Dropshipping Jewelry

  • Difficult to market because of competition

As far as search volume goes, here is what you will find on Google:

Jewelry is a profitable niche but only if done right. Many suppliers offer jewelry, and you have lots of options when it comes to branding. However, you need to prepare for tough competition.

Summary: Jewelry is a product that is easy to private label, but a bit difficult to dropship. There is a huge market, but you must know how to present your products elegantly.

9. Tech Accessories

Tech accessories, like phone accessories, have a specific market. Most of the time, however, the demand peaks during the holiday season. This should not deter you from selling these items—there is a demand all the time, but it is higher at the end of the year.

Here are some products you must consider:

  • Earphone cases
  • Bluetooth speakers
  • Wireless earbuds
  • Induction chargers
  • Earphone sanitizer
  • Click-on grip for phones

Pros of Dropshipping Tech Accessories

  • Easy to find suppliers
  • Highly customizable; it can carry your brand name
  • Lots of product types to choose from

Cons of Dropshipping Tech Accessories

  • It is a seasonal product

Here is the search volume from Google Trends:

As you can see, there is a higher demand during the holiday season. These items are best presented as gifts. The added benefit of private-label dropshipping through print-on-demand is that you can customize the designs and even add names to each product.

Technology changes so fast, and this means that you have to keep yourself abreast with these changes. If there is a new gadget that you can find a supplier for, sell it immediately so you can take advantage of the craze.

Summary: Electronic products, or tech accessories, are easy to procure, even at a print-on-demand level. The only caveat is that these products are typically seasonal.

10. Toys and Gift Items

There is always a parent out there who would want a toy for the kids. The thing with toys is that like electronics, they also usually peak during the holiday season.

It is not only puzzles that you can sell, as many toys from Chinese suppliers carry no brand. If you use a platform like CJDropshipping, you can work out a deal where the suppliers will use your branded packaging material when shipping the item.

Pros of Dropshipping Toys

  • High demand
  • Millions of products to choose from
  • Lots of suppliers
  • Easy to do private label packaging

Cons of Dropshipping Jewelry

  • Very high competition
  • You cannot brand the toy itself

Here is the search volume for toys:

To succeed in dropshipping toys, I recommend that you find a specific type of toy that we can consider a sub-niche. For example, you can concentrate on building blocks, puzzles, or wooden pieces that need assembling.

Do it this way, and you can easily build a reputation for that specific niche. People will come to you because you are an expert on that toy type.

Summary: Toys have a huge market because there will always be children. However, it is also one of the most competitive niches in dropshipping. You must find a way to separate yourself from the rest of the dropshippers.

11. Bags and School Supplies

You may be surprised to know that the bag in the photo above is white, or a blank product. You can add any design you want, the provider, like a Printify supplier, will do the printing.

Schoolbags are also seasonal, but it is easy to create a private-label brand. You do not need to buy the bags in bulk—all you need to do is design them and import the digital assets to your store.

Pros of Dropshipping School Supplies

  • There are millions of students you can market your products to
  • Bags like these are popular on TikTok
  • It is easy to find suppliers

Cons of Dropshipping School Supplies

  • These bags are expensive

Here is the search trend on school bags in Google:

To succeed in this private label niche, you need to be in tune with what is hot and what the current trends are. You must have a TikTok channel where you can see what teenagers and college students want as far as designs are concerned.

Summary: Bags and school supplies are always a demand. The trick to succeed is to know what the market deems “in” or fashionable in terms of design.

12. Health Products

Health products are always sought after. The thing is that they are difficult to sell. You need proof that your product works. In addition, it is not easy to advertise these products because most social media sites are cautious about health items.

Pros of Dropshipping Food Products

  • There are millions of potential customers
  • You can scale this business by offering various types of supplements

Cons of Dropshipping Food Products

  • Not a lot of suppliers
  • Not easy to advertise

Here is what the search volume looks like on Google:

While food supplements are a great choice, I can tell you that you need models and endorsers to make your brand succeed. It is not easy to market products like these because the buyers want to see physically fit individuals that they can emulate.

In addition, not all countries accept or allow the importation of these products. As such, you will need to do your research before deciding which countries to sell your supplement to. At best, I advise that your supplier and their products must be located in the same country as your target market.

Summary: Food supplements are not easy to find. You can find suppliers from sites like Wonnda but marketing the product is the challenge.

13. Gourmet Coffee

We have a dedicated blog about coffee dropshipping where you can find suppliers. If you love coffee, this should be easy since you know what the market wants, and you can test the product yourself.

Coffee aficionados are everywhere. However, it seems to me that it is more difficult to reach them than the average consumer, especially since we want to target drinkers who want gourmet coffee.

Here is what the market looks like:

Pros of Dropshipping Coffee

  • There are many coffee suppliers of coffee products
  • You can do both white-label and private-label
  • Many suppliers offer dropshipping services

Cons of Dropshipping Coffee

  • A bit expensive
  • You need to be an expert to dropship this product

Coffee is a good product for private labels, but you need to do a lot of work. Since you are dropshipping gourmet coffee, you need to work well on your website, presentation, packaging, messaging, and ads.

Summary: Coffee is an international product. For private labels, you can ask the brewer to create a specific blend for you, but this can cost you more money for the supplier’s blending services.

 14. Scented Candles

You can find suppliers of scented candles in Printify. Should you decide to dropship this item, I will also recommend that you add other products that have something to do with peace and serenity. Here are some examples:

  • Rocks and stones
  • Crystals
  • Incense
  • Fragrances

Pros of Dropshipping Candles

  • Easy to find suppliers with a ready market
  • Anyone can be a customer
  • Shipping costs are affordable

Cons of Dropshipping Candles

  • Prone to breakage since the containers are made of glass

Here is the search volume from Google Trends:

It is up to you if you want to target believers of the New Age Movement. You can position your dropshipping store this way, or market it as a store for everyone.

Should you choose the former, be prepared to become an expert on chakras, spirits, etc. If you do it, I also recommend that you first find a vertical list of suppliers who can supply you with all sorts of candles and materials.

Summary: Scented candles have a market. You can either position your dropshipping store as a candle store for everybody or one that specializes in spiritual doctrines.

15. Eyewear

Believe it or not, you can do private label dropshipping with high-end eyewear. A good example of a provider is the Swiss Eye Group.

You can also find many providers in China, and you do not need to limit yourself to sunglasses. There are many types of eyewear you can sell, including those that can be changed with prescription lenses. However, the prescription lenses will come from optometrists, not from the suppliers. Essentially, you are merely selling the frames.

Pros of Dropshipping Eyewear

  • You can establish a real fashion brand
  • There are so many sub-niches to choose from

Cons of Dropshipping Eyewear

  • You need a lot of marketing money

Here is the search volume for eyewear:

The best news I can share is that eyewear is cheap. Fashion brands that sell them make a ton of money. The only challenge here is marketing. While branded eyewear companies make a lot of profit, they also spend a ton in advertising and payments for models.

Between prescription frames and sunglasses, I recommend that you choose the latter, so you do not have to deal with medical stuff.

Summary: There are many suppliers of eyewear. However, you can only dropship this via real private-label or white-label methods, which means you have to buy the products in bulk and warehouse them.

16. Shoes

Be it sneakers or high-heeled shoes, there are many types of shoes that you can dropship through private-label. The challenge is that you need to buy them wholesale, and then warehouse them.

The good news is that you can also find sneakers in print-on-demand companies like Printify. However, the shoe designs are typically limited.

Pros of Dropshipping Shoes

  • You can do wholesale or print-on-demand
  • People always need shoes so there is a market

Cons of Dropshipping Shoes

  • Difficult to market due to competition
  • You need to buy wholesale if you want a design of your own

Here is what the search demand looks like:

One of the biggest challenges here is pricing. Think about this: why would a customer buy your shoes if he can get a better deal with known brands like Nike and Adidas?

Should you decide to penetrate this niche, I suggest that you design shoes that people will never find anywhere else. Start with print-on-demand so you do not lose money. Once you have enough followers and your band is popular, you can shift to wholesale private-label dropshipping.

Summary: There are many dropship suppliers for shoes but most of them only offer wholesale for private label deals.

17. Workout Equipment

Gym equipment is something that many dropshippers do not sell because the shipping cost is expensive. If you decide to do private labels for this niche, you can rely on many Chinese wholesalers. Sadly, there is no print-on-demand service for this. What I recommend as a platform for suppliers is CJDropshipping.

Pros of Dropshipping Gym Equipment

  • A lot of people want to be healthy
  • It is easy to find influencers who can help you market products

Cons of Dropshipping Gym Equipment

  • Shipping is expensive
  • You may need to buy in bulk

Here is the search volume for the gym:

What I recommend is that you dropship in retail and only have package inserts. Most generic gym items do not have any label or band anyway.

Summary: You can dropship gym equipment in retail if you work with suppliers in CJDropshipping. At best, start by inserting your brand name, not by manufacturing gym equipment exclusively for you.

What are private label products?

Private label products are items a manufacturer produces for a specific retailer.

The retailer specifies the design or formulation of the products they want.

The manufacturer implements their request, then produces goods for their business.

Private labeling allows you to sell products exclusively and under your own brand.

What is the difference between private label and white label?

Private labeling is when a manufacturer produces unique goods for one specific retailer.

The manufacturer customizes the products per the retailer's specifications. And both parties agree that the manufacturer cannot sell these goods to other retailers.

White labeling is different--it involves a manufacturer selling generic products to various retailers.

And you get limited customization options. Because the manufacturer chooses the design or formulation themselves.

White label products cost less to source due to their generic nature. But merchants who sell them face a lot more competition than private label sellers.

If you’re interested in white labeling, check out our list of the 12 best white label products to sell.

Pros and cons of private labeling

Before you start a private label business, it is wise to look at its pros and cons.

This is something I do for every business model--it helps me make an informed decision.

Here are the potential benefits and drawbacks of private labeling:

Private labeling pros

More control over the product

The main benefit of private labeling is that you have more control over the product.

You can insist on precise specifications, even for things as basic as color and shape.

Plus, you can ask suppliers to tweak the product to adapt to changes in consumer tastes.

Ability to set prices

Having your own brand on products lets you pick the price you want to sell them for. You don't have to go by what other businesses charge.

This is good when you buy products in bulk, because you can ask for a lower price and expand your profit margin.

Plus, you are free to adjust prices in response to changes in your business or market conditions.

Stronger brand equity

Having a private label brand helps to establish your store as a trusted resource in your niche.

People can feel confident in your online shop because they know they will find unique goods to buy.

If they like the products, it leads to stronger brand equity.

Private labeling cons

Dependence on the manufacturer

A significant drawback of private label products is manufacturer dependence.

If the manufacturer has delays or quality control issues, it can have a negative impact on your store.

One way to tackle this is to diversify your supplier base. Find various manufacturers for your products so that you have a steady supply of goods at all times.

Minimum order quantity

Private label manufacturers often have a minimum order quantity in place.

Adhering to this MOQ can be tricky during the initial stage. Because you don't know if you will sell enough to clear all the stock you order from the factory.

To keep things low-risk, find a manufacturer that is willing to lower their MOQ. Some manufacturers may be willing to negotiate their MOQ if they see potential in your brand.

Where to find private label products & suppliers

To launch a private label ecommerce brand, you will need a quality supplier to source goods from.

Below, you'll find a list of private label suppliers that offer various customizations

P.S. If you're more interested in white labeling, you can rely on the same suppliers for bulk sourcing.

1. Alibaba

Region: China

Alibaba has thousands of private label manufacturers for any product. But you need to put in the work to find their pages.

Use keyword strings like "private label manufacturing + [your product idea]." And Alibaba will populate listings of private label manufacturers.

Then, you can filter the results based on the MOQ and customization options offered.

The main benefit of using Alibaba is the lower price. Manufacturers here charge a lot less than those on other platforms.

2. Dropshipman

Region: China

Dropshipman is a dropshipping company and private label supplier with a huge catalog.

It offers a dedicated service where its team helps you design your own products.

4. Thomasnet

Looking for private label manufacturers in the US? Then I recommend using the supplier directory Thomasnet.

Thomasnet will then show you a results page with various product options.

Plus, you'll find details about each supplier, including its capabilities and contact info.

Printful Cons

  • You can only sell embroidery if you upgrade your account to a paid plan

Printful offers a calculator tool that allows you to determine the shipping cost of your item per country. This should provide you with adequate information to see if your prices are competitive and profitable.

Summary: Printful is a print-on-demand company that has printing partners globally. Use it to create merch for your dropshipping store, with the world as your market.

Where to sell your private label products

After choosing your private label products, you need to figure out where to sell them.

Below, I have listed all the sales channels that I found to be a good fit for selling branded items.

Selling private label products on Shopify

Shopify is ecommerce software that lets you build an online store for D2C selling.

D2C = Direct to consumer.

The approach gives you more control over branding, pricing, and the customer experience.

It's easy to get started with Shopify. Pick a theme, customize your store, and add the private label products you want to sell.

Then, craft a compelling brand story and product descriptions that make people notice.

Shopify also integrates with print on demand and dropshipping apps. This allows for easy sourcing and order fulfillment.

Selling private label products on Amazon

Amazon is home to thousands of private label sellers.

Both individuals and brands use the platform to get exposure to their products.

And Amazon even has its own private label brand called AmazonBasics.

Competitive pricing is key to standing out on the Amazon marketplace.

For me, the sweet spot or private label products is in the $15-$50 range.

I find that charging below the $15 mark makes it difficult to generate profit. Meanwhile, going above $50 makes you less competitive.

This could be different for everyone, especially those selling high-ticket products.

But for regular private label goods, this is the range I recommend playing in.

Selling private label products on eBay

eBay rarely gets a mention when it comes to the best platforms for selling private label goods.

But that doesn't mean it has nothing to offer to merchants.

On eBay, there are lots of items low in supply if you consider a certain price range.

Let's take the massage gun category as an example. Here, you will find generic offerings retailing for $50-$100 and branded ones selling for $500.

Between the $100-$500, there's a huge supply gap that your private label brand could fill.

Of course, you will have to provide more value than what generic brands offer. And that's where your creativity comes into play.

Think about the extra features you could offer. Or how you can differentiate the unboxing experience.

Private label products FAQ

Is private labeling legal?

Yes, private labeling is legal as long as you are not infringing on the trademark of other companies.

To ensure you are in good standing, you can search for existing trademarks via USPTO's website.

Doing so will help you check whether your brand or product design is infringing on any trademark.

Private label brands must also ensure their packaging complies with all regulations. These include rules related to product information, safety warnings, and country of origin.

Is private labeling profitable?

Private labeling can be profitable, but it depends on several factors, such as:

  • The products you sell
  • The margins you are able to achieve
  • The competition in your market

If you are able to source quality products at a good price and create a unique brand image, you can make a nice profit.

How much does it cost to start a private label business?

Based on my experience, it will cost you at least $1,000-1,500 to launch a private label brand.

This amount should be enough to set up the logistics of your business. For instance, your website, payment system, and order fulfillment.
